The Forty-fifth Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM XLV) and the Twenty-fifth Meeting of the Committee for Environmental Protection (CEPXXV)

Between May 28 and June 8, 2023, the XLV Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM 45) and the XXV Meeting of the Committee for Environmental Protection (CEP25) were held in Helsinki, Finland.

The composition and objectives of the Romanian delegation were also approved by Memorandum 1478/5.04.2023 – Romanian Academy, supported by the Vice-President of the Romanian Academy – Acad. Nicolae-Victor Zamfir, President of the Antarctic Research Commission of the Romanian Academy (CNCAME), and by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Bogdan Aurescu.

From the National Research Institute and Development for Life Sciences (INCDSB), the delegation included Dr. Manuela Elisabeta Sidoroff, Vice-President of CNCAME, ATCM contact point, responsible for scientific issues at ATCM, and Dr. Iris Maria Tușa, head of the Department of Arctic and Antarctic Research.

In the ATCM program from INCDSB, a Background Paper BP001rev3 was presented in the “Science issues, future science challenges, scientific cooperation, and facilitation” section, which summarizes the results of the expeditions organized by the institute in the period 2015-2020 at the King Sejong station, Barton Peninsula in western Antarctica based on the cooperation agreement concluded between the INCDSB and the KOPRI Polar Research Institute in Korea.
