International Conference BioHub 2022 "Biological Sciences: Challenges & Perspectives", 25 th Anniversary of National Institute of Research and Development for Biological Sciences Bucharest, INCDSB, November 15 – 17, 2022

INCDSB’s 25th anniversary was marked by The International Conference BioHub; Biological Sciences – Challenges and Perspectives.

On November 15th, the anniversary event was held in the Library Hall of the Romanian Academy. Researchers from the institute and the academic community, directors, researchers from other national research institutes, university professors, and associate economic agents were present at this occasion.

INCDSB was proud to have along its side: Conf. Dr. Sorin – Valentin Costreie, State Counselor for Education and Research within the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, Andrei Alexandru, State Secretary of the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalization, Acad. Nicolae Zanfir – Vice-President of the Romanian Academy, Prof. Dr. Lawrence Banks – General Director of ICGEB – International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology – Italy, Acad. Nicolae Panin – President of the Genomic Sciences Section of the Romanian Academy, Acad. Dumitru Murariu – President of the National Antarctic Research Commission of the Romanian Academy, just to name a few.

Prof. Dr. Mihaela Paun, the institute’s Director General, gave the visitors a history of the organization and an explanation of the factors that contributed to its success. Dr. Paun paid a special tribute to former general directors, presidents of Scientific Councils; researchers with outstanding results, and mentors but also to the support staff that witnessed INCDSB grow and develop throughout the years. At the same time, Dr. Paun presented the current situation, as well as the strategic approach and development directions of the institute.

In their interventions, the guests highlighted the determination and involvement of INCDSB in leading research projects, with an emphasis on the leading role of the consortium for the implementation of the major project – International Centre for Advanced Studies on River-Sea
Systems; DANUBIUS – RI. Thus, conf. Dr. Sorin – Valentin Costreie, highlighted the institute’s efforts, together with the partners of the DANUBIUS – RI project, for the realization of Romania’s second major research project.

In the second part of the day, Dr. Simona Carmen Lițescu – Filipescu, President of the Scientific Council, awarded INCDSB prizes for the 2021 best researchers, highlighting the interest in research-innovation in strategic fields, as well as for supporting young researchers at career start. Dr. Manuela Elisabeta Sidoroff presented the achievements of the Department of Arctic and Antarctic Research, established in 2014, and awarded recognition diplomas to the expeditionary members that participated in the Antarctic Expeditions (ROICE).

The next days the event was held at the headquarters of the National Institute of Research – Development for Biological Sciences, with presentations dedicated to the dissemination of results in the field of Biological Sciences.
