Reform of the Romanian research system – a priority for Romania

The General Director of the National Institute for Research – Development Institute of Biological Sciences, Prof. Dr. Mihaela Marinela PĂUN, participated on June 6, 2022, in a working meeting initiated by the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitization, by Minister Sebastian – Ioan Burduja, on the topic of the reforms in the field to be undertaken by Romania, according to the recommendations of the European Commission.

The meeting took place at the National Institute for Research-Development Institute of Cryogenic and Isotopic Technologies in Râmnicu Vâlcea, one of the Romanian models of excellence in the field. 

The Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitization has put under public debate the National Plan for Research, Development and Innovation IV (PN IV) – the main instrument for implementing the National Strategy for Research, Innovation and Smart Specialization (SNCISI) 2022-2027, which ensures transparent and predictable financing of the national RDI system for modernization, consolidation of excellence and increasing the relevance of research for the Romanian economy. Mr. Sebastian – Ioan Burduja, Minister of Research, Innovation and Digitization, appreciated the meeting: “Romanian research includes examples of excellence, with results at the international level…. of value in these institutes in the country. At the same time, I want to see an accelerated transfer of research results in the real economy in the coming years, which will mean Romania’s chance to develop and become more competitive in the medium and long term. The discussion was beneficial, the opinions expressed by representatives of the National Research and Development Institutes being vital for finalizing the optimal form for the National Plan. “
